The Science & Technology Coordinator (S&TC) of the NCSAF will serve as a point of contact and representative for the Chapter on science and technology issues and with the Washington Academy of Sciences, to promote understanding of forestry and related natural resource issues to a broader professional audience.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Represent the NCSAF on Science and Technology matters to the Executive Committee, as requested.
- Serve as Liaison for the NCSAF in the Washington Academy of Sciences.
- Submit and encourage members to write articles for SAF publications and the Journal of the Washington Academy of Science.
- Work with other members of the NCSAF to help identify new and emerging issues that the Chapter might address.
- Work with the Chapter’s program committee in developing technical programs for annual meetings and identify potential workshops, when appropriate.
Committee Responsibilities/Organization:
- The S&TC will act individually or appoint up to two individuals to assist with matters, as needed.
- Implement the executive committee’s charge.
Attendance Responsibilities:
- Serve on the program committee to encourage a strong science component in local meetings.
- Attend executive committee meetings.
- Attend Washington Academy of Sciences affiliates meetings, the fourth Tuesday of the month
This position requires approximately 2 hours a month. Desirable skills/experience to successfully serve in this position include the following:
- Interest in forest science and technology
- Contact with a broad range of forestry disciplines
- Communication skills
- Delegations skills
- Sufficient time to devote to activities
