Location: Haskins-Abelson Conference Room, 2 nd floor American Association for the Advancement of Science 1200 New York Ave NW (Nearest the Metro Center - Red/Blue/Orange Lines) Washington, DC

Format: Catered lunch from Cosi – RSVP by COB June 8 required to batesmt@verizon.net or call 703 538-1134. Vegetarian lunch available on request with your RSVP. Lunch fee of $12.00 payable to the NCSAF treasurer at the door. Lunch is optional and all are welcome to attend the program which will commence at approximately 12:00 PM.

Speaker: Bernard A. Hubbard Jr., President of the Society of American Foresters and owner, Forestry Solutions LLC

Bernie will provide his perspective on the role of forests and foresters in the United States and the world, and the importance of SAF in meeting the challenges of the future.

Mr. Hubbard is the current President of the Society of American Foresters, a professional society dedicated to the advancement of forestry in the United States and a major influence in forest policy at the National, state, and local levels throughout the United States . Bernie is also the owner of Forestry Solutions LLC, a of consultant forestry firm. Clients include BioForest Technologies an international firm specializing in forest certification, management planning, insect and disease surveys and control and forest management training.

Bernie has a wealth of professional forestry and land management experience, including serving as the Michigan State Forester; Assistant Chief of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Forest, Mineral and Fire Management Division; Michigan Upper Peninsula Forest Supervisor; District Forest Supervisor of the Michigan Lake Superior State Forest; Area Forest Manager of the Traverse City Forest Area; and Forester with the Naubinway Forest Area and the Seney National Wildlife Refuge in Michigan.

Mr. Hubbard’s experience includes representing a major state forestry agency in Michigan in all areas of forest management, cooperative private land management and assistance programs, regional forest planning and management, wildland fire program management, economic development of forest products including forest product marketing assistance, and management and development of forest-based recreation programs.

Bernie graduated from the Michigan Technological University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management. He has served in numerous leadership positions with the Society of American Foresters and has represented the state of Michigan at National and International conferences in the United States and Canada. Bernie has also served as the President and board member of the Tahquamenon Area Youth Hockey Association and has coached youth Hockey for 14 years in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
